Gtechniq Ceramic GWash

Gtechniq has just launched a new product. Namely the Gtechniq Ceramic GWash, a pH neutral shampoo with ceramic protection. With the Gtechniq Ceramic GWash you can be sure that you have a high quality pH neutral shampoo that works perfectly on cars with or without protection.

While you will notice that the Gtechniq Ceramic GWash does not create foam, it does not take away any cleaning properties from the normal GWash. It is just as safe for the paint and it glides your wash mitt over your car at least as well. Because there is ceramic protection added to the shampoo, the SiO2 components of the protection ensure that you cannot create foam in the shampoo.

What you will notice is that the Gtechniq Ceramic GWash does create slightly more dry spots during the wash compared to the regular GWash. We mentioned in our blog about the updated version of GWash that the dry spots are due to the protection that is on the car, repelling the shampoo and water. Since the Ceramic GWash also does the cleaning and protection in 1 product it also immediately creates a huge water repellent surface which again gives you more dry spots.

However, there is no need to panic. The ceramic ingredients that are in the Ceramic GWash therefore also make this a tremendously slippery shampoo. As we already know, one of the biggest reasons that wax scratches occur during washing is by using a bad shampoo. We also explained this in our blog on why you should not use dish soap as shampoo. Reasons include that you need the right formula to loosen the dirt that is on cars, should not use chemicals that are harmful and good lube.

Because the Ceramic GWash has ceramic components, it ensures that it glides over the paint so well that the chance of wax scratches are reduced to an absolute minimum. If you still feel uneasy about it, you can always opt for the normal GWash and then apply protection with, for example, Gtechniq Easy Coat or Gtechniq C2 Liquid Crystal. The Gtechniq Ceramic Gwash simply ensures that if you want to apply a protection quickly and effortlessly due to lack of time you can do this while washing the car.

Because the Ceramic GWash also adds extra protection, this is also an ideal solution when you already have protection on the car. The added ceramic protection of the Ceramic GWash ensures that the underlying protection is better protected and will also last longer. The overlying protection will disappear first due to the influence of weather, sun, dirt, chemicals, and so on. As a result, the underlying protection will have less to endure, making its life time longer.

Of course, it can also be used on cars that do not yet have protection when you want to protect your paintwork. Ceramic GWash can provide up to 3 months of protection depending on the conditions in which it is used. If you wash your car with aggressive chemicals, your car is left outside constantly in all weathers, you drive many kilometers per day, and so on, these are conditions that will limit the lifespan which is the case for all types of protection from all detailing brands.

If you want to apply the as much protection as possible with the Ceramic GWash, it is best that you first wash your car with Ceramic GWash and the 2 bucket method as usual. Then rinse the car well and put some Ceramic GWash directly on the wash mitt to re-treat the surfaces. Then rinse the car thoroughly again with cold water.

When you start washing your car with the Ceramic GWash, you will also notice that there is a measuring cup on the cap of the bottle. You can use this measuring cup so that you use the right amount of product when you wash. Gtechniq recommends using 20ml of shampoo per 10L of water. This is about half of the normal GWash so you will also notice that the Ceramic GWash will last longer. Since it is also a more expensive product, this is of course a nice bonus.

to the top of the world in terms of developing high quality detailing products. Especially in the field of ceramic protection, they are vastly ahead of many other brands on the market. Gtechniq is constantly striving to bring out the best product on the market. Although many other brands already had a ceramic shampoo, Gtechniq has continued to develop and test the Ceramic GWash until they are sure that they can release the best product on the market.

Ceramic GWash was tested against their competing brand and kept developing until they had the right formula that works better than the competition. Ceramic GWash achieved better results in terms of water contact angle, oil contact angle and surface free energy.

The water contact angle test is probably the most important test for a shampoo with protection in 1 product. It measures the water repellent properties of the ceramic shampoo by measuring the angle at which the water droplets are formed. The tighter the water droplets, meaning the higher the contact angle. The more water repellent the product is. In the chemical industry, it is established that a water contact angle of 90° or higher is hydrophobic. Here, Gtechniq Ceramic GWash achieved a contact angle of 100° while the competitor achieved 89°.

The same is done with oils. As we know, oil is lighter than water, so oil floats on top of water when mixed. Therefore the contact angles with oil are also lower than with water. However, the theory remains the same. If the contact angle is greater, the oil will not adhere as well to the surface. Therefore, it will also clean better and also keep the surface cleaner when faced with oil and road grime. Gtechniq Ceramic Gwash has an oil contact angle of 80° while the competitor only achieved 54°.

Finally, there is the surface free energy test. This is partly related to the other 2 tests since higher contact angles result in less surface energy. This is because the surface free energy test determines how smooth and water and dirt repellent the surface is after using the shampoo. The less surface energy there is, the harder dirt will adhere to the surface and the easier the dirt will also come off when you wash your car.

A car without protection has a surface energy of about 40 miliNewtons per meter (mNm) versus, for example, a non-stick pan has a surface energy of 16 mNm. Ceramic GWash here achieved a result of 20 mNm which means it is classified as amphiphilic. It repels both water and oil. The competition only achieved a score of 34 mNm which means they are significantly less dirt and water repellent than Gtechniq and therefore will get dirty again faster.

So these results confirm that Gtechniq Ceramic GWash will not only clean better, but it will also keep your car cleaner longer and better.
