Tree Sap & Tar Remover
Information about tree sap & tar remover
You always need a tar remover if you want to get your car spick and span back. If you have ever washed your car or your rims and kept having black or dark brown spots that you couldn't get off, this is most likely tar. You cannot get these off with a regular car shampoo and a wash mitt. You can sometimes remove them with clay but with this you are much more aggressive than with a tar remover. The chance of making scratches and marring is also much greater.
When you spray a tar remover on the tar spots, you have to let it soak in for a while so that the product can begin to break down the tar. After this, you can spray it off with a pressure washer, or in extreme cases, you can use a microfiber cloth to rub the product to loosen it. We do recommend always wearing gloves as tar remover can be aggressive to the skin.
Tar remover is also aggressive to protection that you have applied to your car. This could be a wax, spray coating or an actual coating, for example. You may not remove it completely right away depending on the resilience of the protection but you will do damage. A true coating is the most durable of all protection, it can have a few treatments with a tar remover if you have a good quality coating that is still quite young.
You also have a tree resin remover. Tree resin and tar stains pull very hard on each other but the formulation is slightly modified for best performance on specifically tree resin. If your car is regularly under trees you will find that sometimes drips of dull gray spots will appear on the car. If you don't remove these in time they can sometimes burn into the paintwork so you will have to polish or sand your car to remove the spots. The easiest way to remove them is with a tree resin remover. You simply spray the product on the spot and let it soak in for a while. Then you take a microfiber cloth and try to remove the spot as gently as possible. Again, wear gloves to protect your skin.
As with many chemicals and especially in the detailing world, it is wise to never use the products on warm surfaces and in direct sunlight. This can sometimes cause the products to burn in or dry out quickly which also significantly reduces the effectiveness of the tar remover and tree resin remover.
